This weekend was busyyyy, but I took a tiny break to enjoy a little splash of color in Columbia, SC this weekend, at the art museum. Art, music, books, dance, sunlight, laughter, community. They’re all different forms of medicine for the soul. 💕

✨Cuentos y Café is in Columbia, SC, for the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association's Sustainable Agriculture Conference, and we are super excited to be here! We are one of two amazing BIPOC-owned bookstores offering a carefully curated list of books on all things plant-related. Check out these quick pics I snapped during setup this afternoon. Soooo cute!

Fue una celebración muy divertida y animada, llena de deliciosos tamales y pozole, Zumba comunitaria, bailes folclóricos de Raíces Emma y los estudiantes de W.D. Williams, y mucho más.

We had such a great time at the Chicas Market CLT’s Spooky Halloween Night Market this weekend! Miss Erleen and Doña Carmen shared some juicy gossip and sipped some cafecito. There was music, there were costumes, and there were vendors bringing you all kinds of goodies. I was excited to bring Cuentos y Café back to Charlotte for another Chicas Market, this time with some added treats from Sarita’s Healing Hub.

Shout out to DJ Kamigo for keeping two pretend grannies vibing the whole night, to my girls for the last-minute granny costumes, the Chicas Market crew for planning such community-based events, and everyone who stopped by our tent and spread the book love.

Ohhhh, and a big thank you to @lujoluxestyle for the cute jumpsuit and @dessertsbyash__ for the chocoflan that I devouredddd!

Still smiling after Sunday’s Lovely Asheville Festival 🌞✨ It was such a fun, family-friendly day—perfect weather, good vibes, and so many wonderful folks stopping by to chat and browse books.

I even snapped a few photos of some of Cuentos y Café’s colorful titles (not a pro photographer, but I love trying to capture the vibrancy of the stories I get to share with the community 💛📚).

This is just a tiny glimpse of what we offer, but it fills me with so much joy to see these books out in the world.

Yesterday, I got to bring @cuentosycafebooks to the Pride Festival: Resilience and Resistance for the first time, and it was bittersweet for a few reasons. Bitter, because the weather sent me into such a panic that I left early to avoid damaging the books, only to have the sun come out an hour later. Bitter because my lack of patience and my fear of the weather cut short an experience I had been looking forward to for months.

But also sweet. Sweet, because I witnessed so much love, joy, and authenticity in one space, on a day that triggered so many difficult memories. Sweet because, in the time that I was there, I met cool people, saw amazing performances, and remembered that in the face of something as traumatic as Helene, and despite the chaotic political climate that insists on promoting hate, we can still continue to come together in love and appreciation.

I am bummed that I missed the end of the event, but I am carried by the knowledge that next year brings another opportunity, that we are still here, resilient and resistant, and supremely grateful to the folks at @blueridgepride for the opportunity to be a part of your event, all the peeps who stopped by the tent and who continue to support @cuentosycafe out in the community, Sarah @saritashealinghub for watching the tent so I can explore, and all the talented folks who showed up and showed out!

Last year, I was super excited to get tickets to the Punch Bucket Literary Festival, but life had other plans and I couldn't make it. Imagine my absolute joy when I received a message from Rachel @punch_bucket_lit inviting me and @cuentosycafebooks to be a part of the festival's book fair this year!

I had such a great time meeting folks from local small indie presses like Otterpine, Loblolly, and Driftwood, to name a few.

Of course, the book lover in me couldn't pass up the opportunity to acquire some new reads, which include Dream of Xibalba by Stephanie Adams-Santos, Proud Roads by Kelly Riedesel, This is the Year by Gloria Munoz, and Mother Body by Diamond Forde. Oh yeah, and I had a total fan girl moment when I got to chat with Floria Munoz and snagged a signed copy of her latest title. Whoot Whoot!

I almost forgot to mention I got to meet author Lee Taylor and received an advance reader copy of their upcoming book, A Satchel of Richards.

My little book-loving heart was so full!

In all the chaos of the past week, I missed Cuentos y Cafe’s first anniversary! I can’t believe a year has gone by since an idea became reality and we hosted our first pop-up event Battlecat Beverly Hills on August 3rd of 2024. I won’t lie and say it’s been a piece of cake because it hasn’t. It has been a rollercoaster ride full of laughter, community, loss, growth, blessings, and a few tears. Despite all that, I continue to marvel at the joy that comes from sharing stories. Thank you to everyone who has supported this dream along the way, in large and small ways. Thank you to the coffee shop owners, the markets, the social media shares, and the kind words. Here’s to many more years and for the evolution that comes with it. I feel truly blessed. I sat down with the super talented photographer and the founder of The Envoy’s to discuss @cuentosycafebooks and to share a little bit about me and the love of stories that helped fuel Cuentos y Café.

We had such a great time at today’s birthday pop-up. It brings me so much joy to be around super cool humans who enjoy a good book… or three! I am eternally grateful for Samantha, for bringing this idea to me and making the whole experience super easy, from set up to break down. I think private book pop-ups are my new favorite thing.
